The next day on July 23, the Outside Processors Council will hold a business and
educational meeting followed by another round of golf. The OPC will meet at Travis
Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor. A continental breakfast will be served at 7:30am,
with the business session beginning at 8 am.
Following the meeting, the council will sponsor an educational presentation by Thomas
C. Graham, widely known as one of the steel industry's most successful and innovative
executives for his leadership in improving steelmaking operations since the 1970s.
Graham is a founding member of TC Graham Associates, a management consulting firm
that advises clients on strategies to improve operating performance.
Graham is largely credited with turning around profitability at U.S. Steel, Washington
Steel and AK Steel through initiatives which improved productivity, consolidated
facilities and expanded markets. After his arrival at AK Steel in 1992, the company
went from being the least profitable U.S. steel company to earning the most profit
per ton, and producing steel with the fewest man-hours per ton, of any of its major
competitors over the following five years.
Graham was the founder and served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AK
Steel Corporation and remained as Chairman until his retirement in 1997. From 1992
to 1994 he was President and CEO of Armco Steel Company, L.P., predecessor of AK
Steel. From 1991 to 1992, Graham served as Chairman and CEO of Washington Steel
Company. He was President of the U.S. Steel Group of USX Corporation from 1983 to
1991. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of Jones & Laughlin Steel Company.
Following Graham’s presentation and a box lunch, golfers will have the opportunity
to hit the greens of Travis Pointe and once again test their skills and talents.
This is a great opportunity for networking and building relationships.
